Research On The Social Support System Of China's Rural Involuntary Bachelors

Patriarchal cultural tradition and decades of high sex ratio at birth caused imbalance in the sex structure of the population and lead to a male squeeze in the marriage market.With the migration of women and marriage mate gradient upward, the excess male population gradually gathers to economically backward rural areas, and forms “the rural involuntary bachelor”. Living conditions are the premise of social support, and only fully understanding the living conditions of a particular group, can we make an effective social support. Social support is an effective way to improve living conditions of disadvantaged individuals and it plays an important role to improve their quality of life. Thus, this paper focuses on the rural involuntary bachelors' living conditions and social support, in order to build a system of targeted social support for the population.Survival and development of the rural involuntary bachelor has attracted attention of scholars, however, the thesis uses the data from rural male quality of life survey, which collected in Zigui County from July to September 2015. Firstly, this paper analyzes the disadvantage of involuntary bachelors from living conditions, and explores their complex needs; Secondly, by studying the existing social support of the rural involuntary bachelor, we find that their living conditions exist many problems and shortcomings; Finally, the thesis builds a targeted social support system for the involuntary bachelor, and establishes an exit mechanism for this vulnerable group.The main researches are as follows:(1) by comparing with married men, the rural involuntary bachelor is worse in the subjective and objective aspects of living conditions. And this disadvantaged group has many complex demands;(2) Through studying the data of research, the thesis sorts out their formal and informal support from three dimensions named economic, health and service, and finds that their social supports have many problems in meeting their needs;(3) Based on life-cycle perspective, the thesis builds a targeted social support system to the rural involuntary bachelor,in order to provide a theoretical basis for improving quality of life and improving the living conditions of the population.
