Analyzing The Policy Of Russian Intervention To Syria Crisis(2015-2017)

Since the outbreak of the Syria Crisis in 2011,Russia's intervention in Syria Crisis had experienced three periods,namely,the onlooker period,the passive period and the active period.In the first two periods,Russia had insisted that the political approach be the only way to solve the Syria Crisis.However,when Russia witnessed tremendous changes of its domestic and international environment and faced with internal and external difficulties after Crimea to take off the Ukraine into Russia in 2014,it changed its previous policy towards Syria and took initiative to launch air strikes against “Islamic state” in Syria on September 30,2015.This signified Russia's active military intervention in Syria Crisis.In light of the continuing development of Syria Crisis,this paper analyzed Russia's intervention policies towards Syria Crisis from 2015 to 2017.Russia and Syria have been traditional allies.Russia's policy stance on the Syria issue reflected its national aspirations,and the stance was driven by a combination of factors such as Russia's domestic and international environment,the pursuit of power,anti-terrorism security and geopolitical economic game.The main feature of Russia's intervention policies in this period was a two-pronged strategy involving political and military approaches.Politically,Russia promoted the contact and dialogue between Syrian government and the opposition;diplomatically,Russia supported international mediation and opposed to unilateral sanctions and military intervention in Syria;militarily,Russia strengthened the military support to Syrian government through military actions.Russia's intervention policies towards Syria Crisis represented its demands for the national interests.Although Russia had achieved a certain success in practical actions,it still has a long way to go before realizing the goal.
