The Research On People To People Program And American Public Diplomacy,1956—1974

The People to People Program was an American public diplomacy activity which launched by President Dwight D.Eisenhower on September 11,1956 to enhance international understanding and communication among the people of the world.This program was the product of the co-operation between American private groups and government agencies to promote civil relations after the iron curtain came down,Eisenhower fully mobilized the private group power such as students,musicians,doctors,sports circle,lawyers to carry out public diplomacy activities during the program implementation,it has achieved certain results in the field of city diplomacy,art exchange and medical assistance and promoted the friendship between the United States and other countries,it was also a typical case that the United States launched extensive public participation in public diplomacy during the cold war.But in fact,People to People Program was an important practice of "official-private initiative" cooperation network which was often used in American public diplomacy,behind the promotion of the project was a "non political" mask,dressed in "peace and friendship" coat of psychological warfare,it played an important role in the process of promoting the global Americanization.
