The goal of this thesis is to asses useful ideas for emergent economies, especially Brazil of how to improve its participation in the multilateral agenda,in order to contribute to the South-South cooperation.Firstly,by delving deeply into the genesis of Brazil and how it was influenced by the new development outlines for emergent economies,in the beginning of the 21rst century. The innovative plan programmed by the new government, with the leadership of Lula da Silva, built new paths for the South-South approach.Only then, looking at the newly-found BRICS,and other institutions,as the result of an age of transition highlighted after 2008's crisis.Generally, this study about the South-South approach, takes two broad shapes:one is the analysis about Brazil's peculiarities in International Relations, which sustains the innovative approach, supportive for the multilateral global governance, and the efforts for a more democratic world order, with bigger representation of developing countries. On the other hand,we present China's views in development and its relations with other emergent economies, towards its South-South cooperation agenda.China seems to drive its foreign policies with certainty, asking how much of a difference they can actually make in the agenda leading emergent economies.None of those broad fields, though, address the theme which can truly answer our main questions, because since the creation of the concept of cooperation between the Souths',these countries have changed substantially as well as the dominant economies, their paradigms, and their influence in international economic institutions. Then, aiming to add a new perspective to this debate, this thesis will make an attempt at assessing peculiarities about the Brazilian priority in South-South cooperation, the post-crisis with the neoliberal thinking, and its influences for emergent economies like China and Brazil. The differences between administrations in Brazil, and the consequences for newly-found participation of Brazil in the development agenda.
