Degree and postgraduate education has long been the core issue of research in the field of higher education in China. With the continuously growing size of postgraduate enrollments, postgraduate training quality has become and a great concern of the community, the reform of length of schooling at the level of master's degree has become the focus of attention. In the continuing exploration, some experience has been accumulated in this area. On this basis, the reform of postgraduate length of schooling is beneficial not only to the society but also to the overall reform of the postgraduate education.In the course of reforms in the recent decade, some colleges and universities have made some reforms on their postgraduate length of schooling as well as some adjustments on the training programs according to their actual situations. Some of key universities have reducing postgraduate school years. A two-year pattern has set the direction of the reform. However, there have been some problems in the process. No consensus has been reached yet as to the future development of the reform. This article is written to deal with the various problems in this field. Secondary research such as historical literature has been conducted. Primary research such as questionnaire has been used. Comparitive methods have also been adopted. A systematic and comprehensive summary has been made on the reforms in China in the recent decade. Through questionnaires and interviews, the article has come to some deep understanding of the impact on the main stakeholders like students, tutors, universities and the society of the reform. On the other hand, the article pays attention to the current supply and demand of human resources at the postgraduate level. Education is to meet the needs of society. Only by understanding the demand of the human resources market, maintaining an effective balance, setting up the training objectives in line with the requirements of the market can the reform be appropriately made.
