The studies of English teachers' job burnout both at home and abroad focused on the current situation, the concept, the factors and the measuring tools. Most objects of the studies were female English teachers and less research was targeted on male. Therefore, this dissertation tried to explore the gender difference of English teachers' job burnout, in which gender was regarded as the only variable. It can not only provide original data and theoretical basis to the future researchers who are interested in this field but also arouse their attention to male English teachers' job burnout. In brief, the studies are of some significance to help English teachers and the students develop physically and mentally and to help the teaching proceed successfully.Three theories are employed in this dissertation: Conservation of Resources Theory, Social Competence Model and Gender Difference. On the basis of these theories, the dissertation mainly studies the following three questions: first, are there any differences between male and female English teachers' job burnout? What are the differences? Second, what are the reasons of the differences? Third, are there any useful measures to help English teachers prevent and remit job burnout? In order to solve the three questions, the dissertation selected the English teachers of several secondary schools in Jinan as the subjects and conducted the study by using questionnaire survey and interview. After collecting all the data, the dissertation used the independent sample T test and one sample T test to investigate the gender difference of English teachers on emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and knowledge exhaustion, reduced personal accomplishment. The dissertation coded and analyzed the interview data so as to study the sources of pressure, ways of dealing with pressure, and the attitudes towards social expectation and organizing situation of male and female teachers so as to make up the insufficiencies of questionnaire survey. Based on the analysis of the data and the reasons, the dissertation put forward some measures to ease the job burnout of secondary English teachers from personal perspective, organizing perspective and social perspective.By questionnaire survey and the interview, the dissertation has summarized the following findings: the gender difference among secondary English teachers' job burnout in Jinan does exist; it shows in emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and reduced personal accomplishment; this comes from personal, organizing and social factors. These findings help to shift the future researchers' study perspectives, from female English teachers to males ones. At the same time they lead the male English teachers to pay more attention to their job burnout. Finally they provide the future researchers with original data and theoretical basis.Because of the restrictions of time, relationship networks and the researcher's ability, this dissertation has two main limitations. The first one is that the samples of the questionnaire and the interview are so small that they can just represent the situations of the secondary English teachers of some schools in Jinan rather than stand for the whole English teachers. The second one is that the dissertation neglected other demographic variables besides gender, which must have affected the research. Therefore, considering the findings and limitations, the future researchers can try to do some research on male English teachers' job burnout and increase the samples, during which they can get a good command of the demographic variables. What is the most important is that more practical measures are proposed to ease and even eliminate the teacher job burnout so as to guarantee the sound development of both teachers and students and to facilitate the teaching to proceed orderly.
