Head teachers play an important role in teaching and management of schools. However, with the development of teaching reform and social emphasis on teaching, head teachers are shouldering more and more responsibilities and assignments. A series of objective and subjective factors forces head teacher especially in high schools, to suffer great physical and mental pressure, which leads to terrible effects on teachers’ health, minds and behaviors, and then results in job burnout. Job burnout of head teachers will do great harm to teachers’ physical and mental health, and cause immeasurable negative effects. Therefore, the research on job burnout of head teachers is of vital significance.The research takes the head teachers of four high schools in Wu Jiang as objects. Based on previous researches and achievements, questionnaire survey and interviews, the research discusses the phenomenon, performance, reasons and strategies of job burnout of head teachers in high schools. The contents are as follows.Ⅰ. The summary of job burnout and teachers job burnout at home and abroad.Ⅱ. The survey of current situation on head teachers job burnout. Through questionnaire survey and interviews, head teachers in Wu Jiang appear to show obvious job burnout, including serious emotional exhaustion. Among head teachers in high schools, those teaching Chinese, Math and English show the most serious job burnout.Ⅲ. The analysis of current situation on head teachers in high schools. Reasons are listed as follows:high-intensity work state, imperfect management systems and appraisal, subtle relationships and teachers personal factors.Ⅳ. The strategies to cope with head teachers job burnout. It not only needs teachers personal measures, but also needs positive adjustment and intervention of school management and humanistic care of society. Specific measures are as follows: sharing and reducing the class management tasks, humanization of school management systems, adjusting personal working habits and state of mind.
