The 21 st century in which we are is a new era, an era of technology and science improved rapidly in every moment. In such an era, learning and education are placed on the most important role. The new period, the characters of physics and the standards of new curriculum demand the effective inquiry teaching, so we can cultivate talents with high scientific quality and strong original spirit. The teacher's role position in inquiry teaching gets very important. But, it is due to the constraints of the official evaluations, parents' wills, the school conditions and teachers' own qualities etc. This problem is still far from satisfaction. From the research about this aspect, experts discuss mainly in theory, but the operational knowledge is less; the teachers emphasize on the actual operation process, the theoretical study is slightly less. In this research, questionnaire survey method, interview method and literature method are used, which can easily help us to find the data and problem with high reliability. This research discusses the role of the teacher in the whole process of inquiry teaching in classroom, and makes some explorations in extracurricular inquiry activities. This study tries to make breakthroughs and innovations from three aspects: First of all, make the theory of the role of the teacher to be systematic; Second, provide reference and help for the physics teachers of junior middle school, especially the newly teachers; The last one, make an accurate position of the role of the teacher when the students carry out their extracurricular inquiry activities.
