English Reading, as one skill of listening, speaking, reading and writing in language learning, plays an important role in English learning. Reading is an important part of language skills. It is an ability to understand and important means of acquiring and processing information. English reading comprehension ability of senior high school has a direct influence on the students'college entrance examination scores, and it also reflects the students' comprehensive ability of using English. This drives us to pay more attention to the cultivation of students'reading ability. English curriculum standards clearly pointed out:"the English curriculum reform is to change the focus of the English course which gives too much emphasis on the interpretation of teaching English grammar and vocabulary knowledge and emphasizes the course that should start from the students'interest in learning, life experience and cognitive level, advocating experience, practice, participation, cooperation, the exchange of learning method and task-based teaching approach."Reading teaching is one of the important parts in senior high school English Teaching, which plays a vital role in the cultivation of students' reading ability. It is a pity that the reading class teaching is not satisfactory. In order to find a more effective teaching mode of English reading teaching, the author makes a research on the application of cooperative learning to the English reading teaching. Let the students give full play to the main role of them. Let the student gain the initiative in learning and release the inspiration in the study. To this end, the author seriously reflect on the teaching of English reading class, believing that cooperative learning is a breakthrough and supplement to the traditional class teaching system and breakthrough. It is very effective and feasible.This thesis consists of five chapters. Chapter one is introduction. Introduce the background, purpose and significance of the research and the present situation of English Reading Teaching in senior high school. Chapter two is literature review. Review the concept of cooperative learning, the meaning and characteristics of cooperative reading teaching and the differences between the cooperative reading teaching and the traditional reading teaching. At the same time, it also expounds the theoretical basis of cooperative learning, that is, Humanistic Psychology-Maslow's hierarchy of needs theory, Constructivism-Scaffolding instruction design, Cognitive development theory-the theory of the zone of proximal development. Chapter three is Methodology. It is the core of the thesis. Describe the purpose of the experiment, the subjects, the use of teaching materials, and the process of the experiment in details, including the experimental pre-test and post-test. And the specific teaching case is included as well. Chapter four is the result and analysis of the experiment. After comparing the experimental class and the control class, there are significant differences between the two classes. It is proved that the group cooperative leaning in English Reading Teaching in senior high school is very effective. Chapter five is conclusion. Conclude the teaching implication and limitations of the research. Summarize the experience from the research and better guide the teaching of English reading in the further study.
