Nowadays, the world has entered into an era of information explosion, with knowledge changing and accumulating every day and the thought of lifelong education becoming more and more popular. Therefore, it is imperative to improve the students' autonomous learning ability in English. Taking the school where the author teaches as an example, the author studies the cultivation of English-learning autonomy of rural sixth-grade students in this thesis. The thesis first presents the related concepts of autonomous learning, summarizing domestic and overseas research literature on autonomous learning and English autonomous learning, then analyzes the influencing factors and discusses the feasibility and necessity for cultivating English-learning autonomy of six-grade students in rural areas. According to the survey, the rural six-grade students generally have poor English-learning autonomy. Focusing on their English-learning situation, the thesis proposes several methods to cultivate English-learning autonomy, including establishing correct teaching and learning concepts, instructing students with proper learning methods, encouraging cooperative learning, creating external environment that is conductive to autonomous learning and encouraging students to make self-evaluation. After a semester of practice and training, the author conducts another survey on the same group of students and the survey proves that the cultivation methods are effective.
