| The stage of senior high school is very important and college entrance examination is a key points for Chinese students. The major task for high school student is learning, and they focus their attention on academic performance.The entire society pursue high score, but they ignore the student’s mental health.General well-being is an important indicator to measure one’s mental health. Therefore the high school student’s academic achievement and well-being are issues that need urgent research. The factors that influence academic performance and general well-being have been one of the important problems. Acting altruistically means intending to benefit another with one’s behavior. Positive psychology research shows that altruism can promote both physical and mental health. This research focus on the relationship of altruism, general well-being and academic performance.Previous studies have demonstrated that altruistic behavior can affect self-esteem and general well-being. And self-esteem can affect student’s academic performance.Given previous research,this study explores the relationship of altruism, academic achievement and general well-being. Meanwhile the study also provides a theoretical basis for the family, school and social about the altruistic behaviors.This research adopts the altruistic behavior questionnaire, self-esteem scale(SES), general well-being(GWB), and academic records of Chinese,maths and English. High school students of 984 took part in the test. The study discusses that the altruistic behaviors have influence on high school students general well-being and academic performance, and the mediating role of self-esteem. The results are as follows:1.Altruistic behavior had significant difference in gender, girls showed more altruistic behavior than boys.2.Altruistic behavior and general well-being correlated significantly, and could positively predict general well-being significantly;altruism and self-esteem were significantly correlated, and could positively predict self-esteem significantly; self-esteem was related to general well-being significantly, and could positively predict general well-being significantly.3.Self-esteem played a partial mediator effect in the relationship between altruism and general well-being.4.Altruism and academic achievement was not correlated significantly, adding self-esteem, self-esteem and academic performance were significantly correlated and negative to predict academic achievement, self-esteem and academic achievement correlated significantly and positively predict academic achievement.5.Self-esteem played a masking effect in altruism and academic achievement. |
