Since taking exams is a process that students have to go through in their study, the test paper reviewing class (TPRC) becomes a special type of lesson, through which students can review and check what they have learned before the test. Meanwhile, the test paper reviewing class plays an important role for teachers to obtain information feedback, adjust teaching strategies and improve the effectiveness of teaching. In the English test paper reviewing class (ETPRC), however, teachers often ignore the students’attitude, the development of their personalities and their subjectivity.With the concept of "effective teaching" catching much attention from scholars at home and abroad, this study carried out an action research in Class 16, Grade 7 in Huaiyin Middle School in Jiangsu Province, aiming at answering the following questions:1) What qualities should an effective English test paper reviewing class have in junior high school (JHS)?2) What strategies can teachers use to improve the effectiveness of the English test paper reviewing class?This research lasted for 4 months. After three rounds of action research, this article drew the conclusion according to the analysis and calculation of the research data. Firstly, the effectiveness of English test paper reviewing class in junior high is mainly embodied in the effectiveness of students’behaviors, the effectiveness of learning, the effectiveness of teaching behaviors and the effectiveness of teaching procedures. Secondly, the strategies of effective teaching proposed by the teachers and students in this research are effective in the English test paper reviewing class.Though there are some limitations in this study, it is expected that some findings can be shared with the readers and provide some suggestions for English teachers willing to make some alterations in their test paper reviewing classes.
