The Study On Social Work Methods To Improve Professional Capabilities Of College Counselors

This article is a case study on the application of social work methods to improve the professional competence of college counselors. For high education institutions, counselors are responsible for instructing college students, working on ideological education of college students, in order to help students to establish a correct thoughts on life, values. Meanwhile,counselors are supposed to organize other daily and learning activities for students with appropriate management methods. For college educators and administrators, the tenet that "purse a high moral standard, maintain a strict virtue ethics" should be highly regarded as a guiding principle. In order to improve the quality of college counselors, it is necessary to improve the professional capability and occupational skills of counselors under the premise of effort while making greater efforts to cultivate talents. College counselors must have diversified and cross-functional capacities, among which communication skill, analytical judgment professional competence are particularly critical. Through a great deal of data over my investigation, I arrived at a conclusion that most of counselors encounter the bottleneck in improving the ability. This requires social workers to use the knowledge and skills to help college counselors and improve their professional capability. In short, in order to allow students to obtain a comprehensive, sustainable and healthy development, we should constantly improve professional capability of counselors so that students can get a better service, more professional instructions.The main study objects of this thesis are 23 employed head counselors of Youth Politics College, I try to analyze the real status of their occupational skills and make an in-depth research on their profession competence-improving problem; the main measure is observational method which is based on survey and interview and behavior analysis is used as a supplementary method. The data shows that, the counselors generally think that they are not good enough at interpersonal communication, analytical judgment and professionalism.After investigation, the author designed three group activities to elevate their professional competence in terms of those three aspects. The first activity is self-awareness of one's advantages," to explore their own potential,Learn from each other, counselors rediscover their own advantages and employ those advantages in their daily work; the second activity is"Decompression and relief" which provides a theoretical basis in terms of capacity improvement for the counselors; for the third thing, the counselors should smooth the communication channels and share information resources more efficiently, in the meantime, they need to cultivate students to be willing to help others and tenacious to face hardships; Third group activities:“Unity is strength”, take group activities as an opportunity to help them improve their professional quality. The final evaluation of the activities indicates that utilizing social work methods are beneficial for the improvement of the college counselors' professional capabilities.
