As China’s economy develops, the demand scale and quality for talents by government institutions and companies is also on the rise, and higher education develops with a higher speed. Privately run higher education institutions, as a new impetus, have enhanced the overall strength of China’s higher education by utilizing its own advantage of flexible mechanisms. Private HEIs are facing fiercer competition. The key to survive the competition, to improve the teaching quality and promote reputation is to cultivate good teachers. Effective incentive measures are important means to promote the creativity and enthusiasm of the teaching staff, which is closes related to the teaching quality. Under this context, it is a significant subject for implementing scientific management to study the incentive measures and mechanisms for the teaching staff of private HEIs.Taking H College as an example, this paper analyzes the current incentive measures for the teaching staff of H College and identifies the problems in the current incentive measures. Systematic induction and conclusions are made by means of the case analysis method, the comparative study method and the participation and observation method. And similar problems in similar HEIs are also analyzed. Using the demand level theory of Maslow and the related knowledge of the organizational behavior science, the demand features of the teaching staff in private HEIs embodied by H College are analyzed. Analysis results show that prominent problems of the current incentive measures for the teaching staff of H College include monotonous incentive forms, inadequate systems and mechanisms, insufficient training, limited career development space, unscientific evaluation systems and a relatively higher mobility rate of talents. Internal and external factors are analyzed regarding the respective problems to facilitate optimization of incentive measures.Specific concepts and suggestions for the incentive measures for the teaching staff of H College are formulated with reference to its overall development strategy, including observing the management concept of putting people first, enhancing the sense of occupational honor, practicing salary incentive measures, enhancing cultural influence, promoting democratic participation, facilitating career development and taking long-term incentive measures. By establishing and improving incentive mechanisms of the teaching staff, sound development of the H college can be facilitated.Private HEIs are already a crucial component of China’s higher education system, so it has great guiding significance for promoting the higher education cause to investigate and study incentive mechanisms for teachers in private HEIs. This paper takes the incentive mechanisms for teachers in H college as an example. Problems in these incentive mechanisms are studies and improvement measures are formulated accordingly, which will have guiding and reference values for scientific management of similar private HEIs.
