Embodying the rich geography-based knowledge, a map is the second “language of geography” and also the epitome of spatial characteristics in the geographical location.Today, with the increasing trend of economic globalization, it is has an important sense to build a complete mental map.So it is very significant for the high school students to master, read, analyze and use geographic charts, which is also the key contents of various assessments about geography. The aim of this paper is to put forward the construction procedure of a mental map and practical methods for it, providing a great way for students to refer in this regard. On the basis of charts in geography textbooks for high school students from the People Education Press, the procedure will be studied in effectively decoding and compiling maps for students in this paper and meanwhile a specific and practical means can be raised. Thus, the valid establishment of a mental map will be achieved. The study methods adopted in the paper include the literature method, the case and the content analysis methods.Through observing the realistic condition of students' learning maps used in the college entrance examination, we could learn about the necessity of the construction of a metal map; By reading many literature, we can conclude the basic theories that students must follow during the building of a geographically metal map;Through studying literature and case analysis, we can obtain the procedure and the specificly practical ways concerning the establishment of students' metal maps in the process of geography teaching at high school. The term of procedure refers to such a course of how to realize the target of from memorization and recall to output, including four stages, namely the stage of memorization, the hold phrase, the recall and recognition stages and the transfer application phrase. The practice has main four segments: firstly, read the information and input a mental map, whose name, scale, location and outline character as well as their relationship are main points to read. second, analyze information and build a metal map, which includes a facial and deep understanding for information as well as the process of information. Thus, a vivid and clear metal map can be formed; third, integrate information and strengthen a metal map, which mainly has the following aspects: add and draw maps, turn abstract into concrete through multimedia and exchange between pictures and words. all those measures can make students' metal maps transformed from instant memorization to long-term one. fourthly, apply to information and output metal maps, which is the final purpose of building a metal map and meanwhile is good for further construction and consolidation of it. Having a close connection and enjoying a construction process from above to below, those four segments finally form a comprehensive and systematic map in mentality, giving a great favor in learning geography for High school students.
