This thesis aims to make suggestions for the development of Chinese professional doctorate education by analyzing the case of Australia,which includes the background,the process,the status,features and obstacles.Researching the cultivation of several modes of doctors,setting of professional doctorates in each university,and differences among Australia,America and UK,this work uses comparison,literature and historical as methodologies to explore development steps and principles of Australian professional doctorate.There are seven parts in this paper,which are introduction,the background,the process,the status,features,obstacles,and enlightens.The introduction presents causes of the research,makes a literature review,and introduces methodologies and concepts.The first part is about the background of the emergence of Australian professional doctorate.The second part presents three steps of how Australian professional doctorate developed.The third part introduces the status of Australian professional doctorate,including training modes,comparison with American and UK,and situations in each university.The fourth part concludes features of Australian professional doctorate,which are increasing amounts of programs,expanding fields of professions,independent social status,and tightening linking with workplaces.The fifth part summarizes obstacles of the development of Australian professional doctorate,which are unstable status,changing polices,fragile viability and little support from workplaces.The sixth part talks about the status of Chinese professional doctorate,and enlightens which make practical suggestions.
