In recent years,the development of professional doctoral education has risen to a policy issue,and how to expand the scale of professional doctorates is the primary problem to be solved.American professional doctoral education has a long history,the third-generation of professional experience in doctoral education scale expansion occurred in the past,on the basis of the rise of power is more diversification,scale expansion process and unique problems and countermeasures in the scale expansion can also help to provide professional doctoral education development in China is facing a dilemma to new ideas.Therefore,this study takes the scale of third-generation professional doctoral education in the United States as the research body,uses the method of statistical analysis to first sort out the basic situation of the scale of third-generation professional doctoral education in the United States,and secondly,expounds the motivation for the expansion of the scale of thirdgeneration professional doctoral education in the United States,and uses the case analysis method to study the problems and countermeasures of the thirdgeneration professional doctoral education in the United States.It provides reference for the development of professional doctoral education in China.Study found that the third-generation of professional doctoral education emerged in public health,and expanding to other disciplines,the knowledge production pattern transformation under the background of transition,labor market demand,the scale of third-generation professional doctoral education in the United States maintains a steady growth trend every year under the influence of the external push of professional associations and the internal changes of higher education institutions.Its development characteristics are that the discipline field of establishing the third-generation professional doctoral degree is constantly refined,and the type of higher education institutions continues to spread,and a gradual and radial scale expansion method is formed.The problems arising in the process of scale expansion include the selection of training subjects,the balance of certification and the ambiguity of connotations,and its countermeasures include joint training of professional doctorates,proposing relevant theories,and providing suggestions for standard formulation.Based on this,China should pay attention to the expansion of scale while maintaining high-quality development in the development of professional doctoral education.First of all,improve the setting of professional doctoral degree categories,and gradually spread the professional doctoral degree provided by the core field to other subject areas,and pay attention to balancing the relationship between institutions and disciplines in this process;secondly,appropriate delegation of powers,the scale expansion of professional doctoral education should be from a rapid transition to a gradual development and incorporate different stakeholders to promote the participation of multiple parties;third,the proliferation of training units,give play to the advantages of different types of universities,rationally build the spatial layout of professional doctoral education,and promote the joint training of professional doctorates between universities.
