High school geography curriculum standard has been promulgated for more than ten years, the key to the implementation of the new curriculum reform is to improve high school geography teachers’ professional ability. The current situation of high school geography teachers’ literacy is not so suitable for students, parents and society, therefore, it is necessary to study the development of high school geography teachers’ professional core competence. In this paper, the concept of the core competence of high school geography teachers is defined, the structure and the function of each factor is interpreted as the starting point, The key research content is how to cultivate the core competence of geography teachers in Senior High School. Analysis on the cultivation strategy of the core competence of geography teachers in Senior High School, help to comprehensively promote the high school geography teachers core literacy, so as to improve the students’ geographical core literacy, promote the all-round development of students.The main research contents of this paper are as follow:1. Define the concept of the high school geography teacher professional core ability;2. Discusses the high school geography teachers’ professional core competence theory on the basis of the geography curriculum and teaching theory, teacher professional development theory, teachers’ Core Competence theory and subject need.3. Our country set the task of the teacher according to the " senior high school geography curriculum standard" and "the middle school teacher professional standard", the high school geography teacher professional core competence is divided into five factors, which are the geography teaching design ability, the geography curriculum resources development ability, the geography teaching implementation ability, the geography teaching evaluation ability and the self development ability, then interpreting the functions of these elements.4.Through interview and questionnaire survey, we can find out the lack of high school geography teachers’professional core ability, which provide the basis for the discussion of the training strategy.5. Put forward the strategy of cultivating the core competence of geography teachers in senior high school.The main conclusions of this research are as follow:High school geography teachers’professional core ability is reflected by the ability to complete the national high school geography curriculum standard.High school geography teachers’professional core ability is mainly manifested in the geography teaching design ability, the geography curriculum resources development ability, the geography teaching ability, the geography teaching evaluation ability and self developing ability. On the whole, this paper proposes high school geography teacher professional core ability training system, and then puts forward the strategy of developing high school geography teachers’ professional core competence, mainly including teachers according to their existing knowledge and ability as well as the relevant requirements of the state provisions for study,related departments and schools to create opportunities for teachers to cultivate the professional core ability. Then put forward the training strategy according to the elements, including geography teaching design ability training strategy:to train teachers to grasp the students’ learning situation, enhance the goal orientation of teachers’ geography teaching design; Geography curriculum resources development ability training strategy:enhance the ability of teachers to identify the resources of geography curriculum, enhance the ability of teachers to organize the geography curriculum resources; Geography teaching implementation ability training strategy:The suitability of improving teachers’ geography teaching, training teachers’ educational tact; Geography teaching evaluation ability training strategy:enhance the diversity of teachers’ evaluation of students, enhance the standard of teachers’ self evaluation; Self developing ability training strategy:enhance teachers’ self reflection system, help teachers to establish appropriate career development plan.
