This paper is based on the questionaires about the using of card games in Chinese vocabulary teaching in New Zealand primary schools. This survey reveals the importance of following the characteristics of each stage in Chinese vocabulary teaching when designing the card games. So the teaching-games design of this paper contains the following five categories: imitating practice, distiguishing practice,memorizing practice, applying practice and multiple practice in revision stage. Another series of questionaires collect the assessments and suggestions of the teachers and students who've tried those card games in Chinese vocabulary learning.First, the paper introduces the purpose of this study, the relavant studies and the research methods in this paper. It also analyzes the questionaires about the card games in vocabulary teaching in New Zealand primary schools.Then the paper introduces the principles of this teaching design in the first part.The background and relavant theories are introduced in this part as well. The design of20 card games are presented in five parts, they're classified into imitating practice,distiguishing practice, memorizing practice, applying practice and multiple practice in revision stage.And then analyzes the feedback of the teachers and students on the purpose of understanding the strong and weak parts of the design. It also gives the suggestions on designing card games in Chinese vocabulary teaching in New Zealand primary schools.At the end, the summary of this paper and the weakness of this study are concluded.Through the designing of the card games and analyzing the feedbacks, I find that the teachers need to free their mind to connect the vocabulary teaching with all the ways we can use cards. The balance of educational value and entertaining value should be reached. The teaching rules, the psychological characteristics of the students and the details of the class should also be considered. Especially for teaching the passionate andactive New Zealand students, motivating them with multiple intelligence, competing conscience and team work conscience are very important in making effective teaching game design.
