The Influences Of Empathy Training To Violent Male Juvenile Criminals' Aggressivity

Committing crimes is the most extreme expression of juveniles' maladaption.A majority of juveniles' crimes are results of their antisocial behaviors which would reach the peak in the middle of puberty.The major parts of juvenile criminals are violent male ones whose crimes are of vile nature and great social hazard.Thus the necessary link of juvenile criminals remoulding is the psychological remedy of violent male juvenile criminals.And empathy competency can effectively help to improve antisocial behaviors of juveniles and effectively prevent the emergence of illegal activity and violent behavior.This paper is an attempt to find out the relationship between the empathy training and the transformation of juvenile criminals' aggressivity after empathy trainings.It can provide theoretical support for the effective prevention of violent male juvenile criminals' recommitment.24 violent male juvenile criminals from a Hunan juvenile prison have been chosen as informants who were divided into experimental group and control group.IAT Implicit Association Test Interpersonal Reactivity Index Empathy Questionnaire and Aggression Questi onnaire have been using as testing tools.The experimental group has been taken 8 times empathy tests,1 times a week and two class hour each time,while the control group has been free from interference.This paper has attempted to do the statistical comparison of those two groups before and after the training and to analyze interviews of informants and policemen after the empathy training.Those experimental informants' empathy points have shown significant edge effect(t=-2.154,p=0.054>0.05),and their cognitive empathy have been greatly improved(t=-2.376,p=0.037<0.05).Those were showed in two dimensions,which were selection and imagination(t=-2.485,p=0.030<0.05;t=2.215,p=0.049<0.05).At the same time,the sympathetic dimensions has been increased greatly(t=-2.560,p=0.027<0.05)while the explicit aggression(t=-1.301,p=0.220>0.05),includi ng physical aggression(t=2.317,p=0.041<0.05),rage and verbal attack,has been decreased obvious(t=3.251,p=0.008<0.05;t=2.416,p=0.034<0.05;t=2.384,p=0.036<0.05;)However the aggressivity of those informants in the control group haven't shown any significant change(t=1.732,p=0.111>0.05).This paper has come to the following two conclusions.Firstly,violent male juvenile criminals' empathy competency can be improved significantly through training.Secondly,the empathy training caneffe ctively decrease the explicit aggression of violent male juvenile criminals.
