Investigation Into Extracurricular Time Management Of College Students In P.E. Majors

It has been put forward in National Program for Medium- and Long-Term Educational Reform and Development that improving the quality of higher education and talent cultivation. And it is a development strategy of higher education to scale up the development of applied, skilled and interdisciplinary talent and to enhance the professional skills training of college students. Since the establishment of P.R.C, the goal of undergraduate physical education has been mastering many skills and specializing in one. However, because of the recent enrollment expansion of colleges, the reducing hours of professional curriculum, lower assessment criteria and some other factors, undergraduates of P.E. cannot fully master professional skills of P.E, leading to the incompetence of their future jobs as P.E. teachers. This condition not only has bad effects on the teaching quality but also causes the instability of professional thoughts, affecting the educational training and professional development after graduation.Thus, studying in the extracurricular time management of undergraduates in P.E. Majors helps to enhance their extracurricular time management ability and has positive meaning in improving the educational methods for them.Based on the research of the values, the control and the efficiency of extracurricular time, documentary study, questionnaire surveys, interviews, mathematical statistics and logical analysis are used in this thesis to make the case study of students in College of Physical Education, Fujian Normal University and study the current situation, cause of formation and influence factors of the extracurricular time management of undergraduates in P.E. Majors. It is found that the undergraduates in College of Physical Education, Fujian Normal University have some problems in their extracurricular time management. And students in different grades and different majors have different amount of extracurricular time, and they also have different amount of time spent in theory learning and skill practicing. The average score of their extracurricular time management propensity is 3.462, indicating their extracurricular time management is in the intermediate level. Different genders do not cause differences in extracurricular time management propensity while different grades and whether being student cadres cause significant difference in control of extracurricular time; different majors and origins of students have different values and control views of extracurricular time; and time for skill practicing and theory learning both contribute to the difference in the control of extracurricular time.After the current situation, some influence factors are analyzed. The main factors are: personal factors, environment factors, educational factors and electronic appliance factors. Finally, some suggestions are given to improve the extracurricular time management of undergraduates in P.E. Majors:on one hand students should enhance their self-management of extracurricular time, and on the other hand school administrators should also pay more attention to students' extracurricular time management.
