Research On The Modern Education Of Stone Gateway In Guizhou(1905-1949)

Stone Gateway was a small village in the southwest of Guizhou Province, it was located in the boder between Guizhou and Yunnan and rooted in Wumeng high-cold mountainous regions. A hundred years ago, the traffic here was obstructed, and the residents living in this wild land were called "big flower". The "big flower" was the lowest nation in social status of ethnic minority nationalities in Southwest China, which was long-suffering oppressed and exploited by the landlord of the Yi Nationality. And also, the "big flower" was the nation which "advocated witch and gohst". It had not educated for thousands of years with no civilization at all, the old Chronicles called them "stupid as pig and hog deer". In 1905, British missionaries headed by Samuel Pollard "opened the gate of Stone Gateway", and pioneered education in local, which drew back it’s prologue of school education in Stone Gateway, even at one time, it made the backward Stone Gateway become the "Cultural Shrine" among ethnic minority areas in Southwest China.Based on the historical data, this paper carrid on the key research on the education of Stone Gateway from 1905 to 1949. First, the paper carried out a detailed description on the education track of modern Stone Gateway; Second, focused on the interior of education, the paper deeply analyzed the nature and revealed the characteristics of Stone Gateway education; Third, the paper dissertated the function of missionaries, the national government and underground party as the main body of education implementation in the education of Stone Gateway. Finally, the paper also analyzed the historical influence of the education of Stone Gateway, so as to explore the function and position in the local community of the education of Stone Gateway. Through these, the paper deepened the understanding of the education of Stone Gateway and enlightened the current education of Stone Gateway.
