In the new scheme for College Entrance Examination raised by Ministry of Education,English test is planned to be changed into a social test with ranking system,which will grant the high school students with several chance to challenge within 3 years' study;however,since the rank required by universities / colleges varies from each other,in other words,the chances for students with weak English to be admitted to good universities / colleges are slim.Obviously the significance of English is rising against degradation as it is usually anticipated.Meanwhile,Standards for English Courses in Compulsory Education,2011 highlights especially the process and practicalness during language studies,and advocates contact,experience and comprehension of the real language while immersing in a specific context,which greatly pushes forward the development of English situational teaching in primary school together with higher requirements.As a matter of fact,even though the situational teaching has been widely adopted in English education for primary school,problems regarding specific fulfillment still exist like the unreal situations frequently occurred in creation,neglect of students' age,lack of communicativeness,etc.In addition,sometimes situations are only used during initiating phase or merely utilized to introduce new knowledge,which triggers the complete disconnection of practices / consolidations away from the situations created.Therefore,on basis of the requirements regarding situational teaching in Standards for English Courses in Compulsory Education,2011 together with the problems existed in English situational teaching of primary school,this paper aims:-To collect,systemize,analyze and comment on referred documents / books regarding the development and research of situational teaching at home and abroad for an overview of theoretical study via method of literature research;-To narrate and interpret the existing theories,phenomena,rules with regard to situational teaching and English teaching strategies of primary school through the writer's own understanding and verification via method of descriptive research;-To explain the problems existed in current situational teaching through review of class teaching via method of observation;-To study and analyze the problems presented in some section in one class,and re-design and re-analyze against the case via method of case study;-To systemize,analyze problems lying in practical activities related to situational teaching experienced and observed by the writer in combination with therequirements of new Curriculum Standards to form one kind of method of experience summarization.This paper is organized in 5 chapters.Chapter I is overview of stating the background and significance of the study;of systemizing and analyzing the referred documents;of summarizing the research situations at home and abroad;of defining the core conception of “situation”,“situational teaching” and “English situational teaching”;of stating the process and methods for research together with research thoughts and technical route.Chapter II is the theoretical basis for situational teaching,which is concluded from Constructivism Theory,Situated Cognition Theory and 2nd Language Acquisition Theory.Chapter III is to state the requirements of creation and application for situations from Standards for English Courses in Compulsory Education,2011 integrated with the design requirements of English situational teaching in primary school from Curriculum Standards.In combination with the requirements of situational teaching from Curriculum Standards and the actual teaching,Chapter IV focuses on such problems regarding English situational teaching in primary school like the unreal situations frequently occurred in creation,neglect of students' age,lack of communicativeness,the disconnection of the study and practices of language away from the situations,together with the analyses against these cases.Chapter V raises the methods of English situational teaching in primary school.On basis of the problems stated in Chapter IV,the relevant methods for solution is brought forward to create appropriate and communicative situations conforming to students' age where high attention are paid for the study and practices of language.Conclusion and outlook are made in summary where the deficiencies of research are presented while looking forward to the future of English situational teaching of primary school based on the Curriculum Standards.
