The Application Of Social Work In Intervention Of Children's Peer Victimization

For the past few years,it is widely focused by the national educational administrations,educators and psychologists that primary and secondary school students are bullied by their companions.The truth is that peer victimization is a special way and interpersonal disorder of the juniors' daily performance,which will develop the aggressive personality of them if the behavior cannot be prevented timely.For the ones who are bullied,the frequent peer victimization will physically and mentally cause damage to them that impacts their healthy growth and social inclusion.The investigation was conducted with the companion bullying of 917 students from grade two to grade six in Yuemin Primary School as the objects.It was discovered that there existed some degree of peer victimization in Yuemin Primary School.It was shown that peer victimization existed more frequently in boys than in girls,and this performance was more endured by junior students than senior ones.However,there was not a significant difference in the behavioral expression of peer victimization between the ones who were the only child and those who were not.Further investigation was performed on class three of grade five selected at random.It was found that,through participatory observation and interview,the students are lack of bullying cognition and verbal bullying was the major performance of the in this class and bullying behavior is different largely between the sexes.The investigation is also found that the cooperative bullying of several girls to a single boy.In this study,six students who ever bullied companions were selected to be the group members.Remedial model of group work and professional methods were adopted to intervene them.Subsequently,group activities and intervention were carried out several times and achieved satisfactory results.Meanwhile,a student who did not performed well in group activities and whose peer victimization was more severe was selected to be the case service object.Behavior modification model of case work was chosen and case work method was applied to intervene,to change his peer victimization furthermore.After conducting social work intervention for nearly three months in this study,team member scale assessment,team member satisfaction scale,Olweus bullying questionnaire,etc.were adopted to evaluate the intervention process.The results suggested that the use of the professional methods of social work could make the students who had peer victimization control their emotions effectively,and treat contradiction in better ways,which observably decreased the quantity of peer victimization.At the end of the practical intervention of peer victimization,the researchers reflect the social work intervention,specifically in the following three aspects:first,discuss the method of team work and case work of the process of practice and found,for a special individual,a case work was stronger than the applicability of the team work,the applicable scope of the two methods is also slightly different;Secondly,thinking ethics and skills in the whole service process,it is concluded that the value neutrality,director self-determination and to label and other skills of social worker needs to improve,the most important is,when in the face of the group internal contradictions,social worker have to handle them properly;Finally,on the whole process of intervention and exploration,on the role of social work,social workers as the supporters,facilitator,promoters and advocates,the change of the behavior and interpersonal skills of the client has achieved some effect,however,social worker did not change the surrounding environment of the client from a macro level to promote the growth of the client preferably.
