Learning plays an important part in the school life of high school students.The study of high school students' learning state may reflect the development of their physical and mental health,and reveals the effectiveness and problems of school education.In the context of the current reform of the college entrance examination system,a study of the learning status of high school students is more worthy of attention.On the basis of literature analysis and interviews,this thesis defines the learning status of high school students as eight dimensions,i.e.learning state,intrinsic learning motivation,extrinsic learning motivation,learning initiative,teacher-student relationship,student-student relationship,future planning and school identity.These dimensions are further subdivided into specific items,thus forming the survey questions.The online questionnaire was launched via acustomized network of Shanghai Municipal Education Commission,covering freshmen enrolled in September 2014(abbr.2014 freshmen,data collected in June 2015),freshmen enrolled in September 2015(abbr.2015 freshmen,data collected in June 2016),and sophomores enrolled in September 2014(abbr.2014 sophomores,data collected in June 2016),from all local ordinary high schools in Shanghai.The thesis presents a comprehensive analysis of the two survey data,and the research reveals:1.The learning status of the 2014 and 2015 freshmen performs generally well,though there are some significant differences between individual dimensions.In the eight dimensions,the best is the student-student relationship,then the future planning,teacher-student relationship,school identity,learning initiative,extrinsic learning motivation,intrinsic learning motivation and learning state.The data indicate that the future high school life is not expected by nearly 30%students,and their mental state is not so good.The learning motivation,especially the intrinsic motivation needs to be improved,as well as the learning initiative.2.As for the learning state,the 2014 sophomores perform not so well as the freshmen,ranked last in all dimensions exceptin the teacher-student relationship.The 2015 freshmen achieve the highest score in the intrinsic learning motivation,teacher-student relationship,student-student relationship,future planning and school identity,better than the 2014 freshmen.And the 2014 freshmen get the highest score in the three dimensions of learning state,extrinsic learning motivation and learning initiative,better than the 2015 freshmen.3.There are some differences between the performance of the boys and girls,but what the boys and girls perform best or worst share the same dimensions,i.e.best in the student-student relationship and worst in the intrinsic learning motivation.The boys do better than the girls in the three dimensions of learning state,intrinsic learning motivation and learning initiative.The girls do better than the boys in the five dimensions of the extrinsic learning motivation,teacher-student relationship,student-student relationship,future planning and school identity.4.What the municipal experimental model high schools,the district experimental model high schools and the ordinary high schools perform best or worst share the same dimensions,i.e.best in the student-student relationship and worst in the intrinsic learning motivation.But there are obvious differences in the learning state of the students from the three levels of high schools.The order of the high schools,from best to worstin terms of general performance,is the municipal experimental model high schools,the district experimental model high schools and the ordinary high schools,except for the dimension of extrinsic learning motivation in which the district model high schools get the highest score,followed by the ordinary high schools and municipal experimental model high schools.5.The learning state of the students from public high schools and sino-foreign high schools excels those from private high schools.The students from public high schools perform best in the extrinsic learning motivation,teacher-student relationship and student-student relationship.The students from Sino-foreign high schools perform best in the learning state,intrinsic learning motivation,learning initiative and school identity.While the students from private schools perform worst in all dimensions except as medium in the teacher-student relationship and future planning.The thesis suggests the government and schools should keep a close watch on the learning status of high school students,and take counter measures to improve it.The government should promote the establishment of a "four in one"(including government,society,schools and families)cooperation mechanism,joining the efforts to improve and enhance the learning status of high school students.Meanwhile,the government needs to study the development of scales for high school students'learning status with different backgrounds and the establishment of the norm,thus providing diagnostic schemes for different schools,promoting the development of every school and the over all growth of every student.The schools should scientifically meet the requirements of the new college entrance examination,effectively reduce the pressure of high school students,timely grasp,diagnose and constantly improve the students' learning status through school-based teaching and learning management.At the same time,the schools should enhance the academic and career planning guidance to students based on the feature of the schools,and enable the students to understand and set their learning goals more clearly,thus improving their learning status.
