“PaWang Ritual” is the ceremony that Yao sacrifices,gives thanks to Pang Wang,and deliver on relevant commitments,which has always received the attention of academic circles.However,on one hand,there are rare results about the systematical and detailed studies of Pan Wang Ritual;on the other hand,scholars often ignore the settlement and analysis of religious documents while researching of Pan Wang Ritual,or discuss the literature without the ritual context,so the study from the perspective of cultural holders is still not enough in-depth and comprehensive.Based on the situation,this paper attempts to take Huang Dong village of Huang Dong township of Yao ethnic,HeZhou as an example,describe the ritual in details by the methods such participant observation,depth interview,documentation analysis and so on.Than analysis the matter of cultural meaning and social functions behind it.In the local Yao's society,people believe that they will acquire the blessings from ancestors and Pan Wang only by deliver the sacrificial commitments and obeying the rules of votive.But in most cases,because of limited condition,majority of villagers are difficult to bear the amounts of burdens from the ceremony.For a long time not to votive,frequently,people believe that something terrible happened to their family is due to ancestor's and Pan Wang's anger.At this time,people want to get through the crisis and implement the status transition through this ceremony.What 's s the significance of Pan Wang Ritual is to awaken the sacrifice commitments and historical memories by chanting of ethnic origins,migration myths in the ceremony,reciting“Yi Zhe”(explaining the process of vow and votive,especially a series of efforts they have done for ceremony)and combining with the scene of amusing gods and entertaining people in the ceremony.
