| Since the beginning of Reform and Opening up,English has gradually been drawing more and more attention in China and more and more Chinese began to learn English.Meanwhile,in the field of education,English is one of the essential foreign languages which students in the primary and secondary schools have to learn.Students in this learning process are required to take different types of English tests.In the National College Entrance Examination(NCEE),English test is the important tool to evaluate whether the relevant requirements of the curriculum standards and the quality of education in the middle school English teaching are realized or not.Then,the National College Entrance Examination is the most important evaluation tool in this phase.In recent years,English learning has become the focus of attention of the whole society.Therefore,in 2013,the draft of the reform of the national college entrance examination was published by the National Department of Education.In the draft,it is suggested that students should have two opportunities to take the exam,which led to a heated discussion.The new policy will be tested in Shanghai and Zhejiang province and it will be carried out around the nation from 2017.The impact of the reform is bound toinvolve teachers and students,and it will be reflected in the view of professional role of English teachers,which causes the teachers to think about their own roles.This paper is an investigation of the effect of the national college entrance exam reform on the view of professional role of high school English teachers.The study mainly involves English teachers of three high schools in Inner Mongolia,including Tuoxian No.1 Middle School,the High School Affiliated to Inner Mongolia Normal University and Donglian Middle School.The author adopts the questionnaire and interview research instruments to further explore the relevant effects of the reform of the national college entrance examination twice a year on the view of professional role of English teachers,and all data were analyzed with SPSS 17.0 statistical software.The Research aims at answering the following questions:(1)What effect does the national college entrance exam twice a year have on the view of professional role of high school English teachers,if any?(2)In which aspects are the teacher’s views of the reform of their professional roles affected by the reform?Now,high school English teachers have a preliminary understanding of the reform of the college entrance examination and show their attitude to the reform.It is discovered that the reform of the national entrance examination twice a year has an effect on the view of professional role of high school English teachers and it is mainly affected in professional status of Englishteachers,the right and obligation of teachers,and the teacher-student relationship.In the right and obligation of teachers,teachers would like to participate in the reform and realize the rights of teachers.At the same time,teachers also show a strong willingness to fulfill the corresponding obligations.In the status of teachers,teachers will have a new chance to take hold on the status of role.In teacher-student relationship,teachers will adjust the specific teaching methods in order to meet the new college entrance examination system,and explore how to make students and themselves to adapt to the new reform.In the questionnaire and interview,senior high school English teachers hold different views of the role of teachers.Meanwhile,teachers have a desire to shape the ideal image of teachers.The above results show that English teachers have a strong sense of their role.In order to promote the transformation and establishment of teachers’ role in the circumstances of national entrance examination reform,this study is designed to provide some suggestions,while includes the one that government should respect teachers’ rights,and establish sound mechanisms,to get teachers fully involved in the reform;Schools should organize teaching activities,helping teachers adapt to the transformation;Teachers should adjust to the development,promoting their re-recognization of teachers’ role in such circumstances. |
