| In recent years,the intensity of college entrance examination reform has become stronger and stronger.Generally,English is the first subject to be reformed.In response to the exploration of some subjects to be examined more than once a year and the implementation of social test illustrated in the official document 2010 National Education Reform and Development Plan for long-term education(2010-2020).Shanghai has been implementing the policy of taking English examination twice a year during the college entrance examination since January,2017.The issues that this study is going to explore and analyze are as follows.How does the government organize the examination? How does it influence high school teachers and students? What are the advantages and disadvantages of the system?In this study,we use the literature method to sort out the relevant papers from two aspects: the English reform in college entrance examination and the socialized examination of English taken more than once a year,thus getting the previous relevant research results that other scholars concluded.Questionnaire and interviews were used to summarize the results as follows.The examination paper has changed greatly.Firstly,there has been a slight decrease of score in the listening part and translation part.Secondly,summary and another piece of reading which requires students to choose four sentences from the given six sentences to complete the passage are added.The examination has a combination of written test and listening and speaking test,with the former taken in a written way,and with the latter carried out through the man-machine dialogue manner.The teaching methods have been changed and renovated in several aspects.First,teachers organize teaching process involving both the listening part and the speaking part.Besides,the teaching methods of reading and writing change a lot.For the students,they spend more time practicing oral English and the frequency in speaking English also increases.However,more and more students focus on the test in January,wishing to achieve a high score at the first time,thus leading to a much earlier sprinting time of the college entrance examination.The achievements of the reform are as follows,to enhance the use of language,to establish a diversified evaluation system of student ability and to promote the reform of English classroom teaching mode.The drawbacks in the implementation of the system are as follows: the two exams impact the normal teaching in the classroom;failure to achieve the expected goal of reducing the students’ burden;the ability transformation guided by exam-oriented teaching has not yet been formed;and the "two exams in a year" bring the problem of invisible fairness among students.Aiming at the shortcomings of the "two exams in one year" system in Shanghai and drawing lessons from the mature socialized examinations of the American SAT and A-level exams in the United Kingdom,this study proposes the following countermeasures: By reforming the contents of high school English courses,the connection between the English courses and the test can be founded.Through rearranging the students according to their English level,and adding optional English courses,the English curriculum can be set more flexible.The government can choose a third-party test service agency to organize and manage the operation of the whole examination process.Combined with the more than one exam a year system and a new grading system,we can gradually realize the implementation of English test social reform. |
