A Case Study On Computer Assisted Language Learning(CALL) In Junior High School English Teaching

With the rapid development of technology,information technology has been used in every aspects in our life.According to the modern education theory,combining to the education and the technology has become an inexorable trend.The function of Computer Assisted Language Learning(CALL)is becoming more and more important.For the sake of better know the development of CALL in junior high schools at present in China,a lot of in-depth investigations and researches have been done in Nangang Junior High Schools in Nanchang City,Jiangxi Province.The investigation participants consist of the school administrators,English teachers and students.There are two research questions of this paper: 1)What is the present situation of CALL in English teaching and learning in junior high schools in China? 2)What are the English teachers' difficulties in the application of CALL in junior high schools in China?Through the observations,questionnaires and interview,it shows that: 1)The hardware of domestic junior high schools is comparatively perfect.But the value of it hasn't been used.The network in school is not good.English teachers and students are optimistic with CALL.However,most of English teachers ignore the rationality of PPT.And most of English teachers use the same template.2)Although most of English teachers have used CALL widely and students take positive attitude towards CALL,computer application level of most English teachers is poor.This is the maindifficulties for English teachers.What's more,in CALL class,some English teachers can't control the teaching speed.Their teaching speed is fast,and communication between teachers and students becomes less and less.According to the survey,following suggestions are proposed: 1)Schools should improve the campus network system so as to provide convenience for English teaching to look up teaching materials.At the same time,school should encourage English teachers to design the PPT suitable for their students and organize some competitions.2)Increasing the investment for education technology training of English teachers.The computational competence of English teachers effects the efficiency of CALL directly.So it is necessary to improve the computer application of English teachers.In addition,dealing with the relationship between CALL and traditional English teaching method correctly.The teaching speed of English teachers and communication between teachers and students should be paid attention to.CALL can't replace traditional English teaching method,but play a supporting role.English teachers should integrate CALL with traditional English teaching style.Thus,the use of CALL in junior high schools English teaching can achieve the real purposes.
