Since education experts presented the concept teaching system from the middle of the last century, people had regarded teaching design as a design art. Through the viewpoint of system theory, we should combine the teaching factors together to make it become a whole which has specific functions to achieve specific teaching objectives. Under this background, it is necessary and significant to merge teaching with technology effectively. Vocational college students, especially the students in Art Design specialty, they cognitive traits have big difference which link to the students in ordinary university. The mainly difference is that vocational college students' abilities of logical reasoning, word usage and reading are weaker but the space imagination ability and practical ability are stronger. In the teaching process, using visual tools can transform the knowledge which is tough and demanding understanding into the vivid graphical knowledge. Thus,to some extent, the cognitive load of students can be reduced and they can accept and absorb the knowledge easier. Also it facilitates students'comprehension and innovation ability. More and more education subjects have been carried out, therefore, great attention is draw to the cultivation of students' diversified thinking in classroom teaching. Besides, the changing information technology provides various teaching ways and methods. For example, the visualization tools can be practically used in teaching. Some visual tools can be properly chosen depending on different courses and majors and so on, so as to realize effective teaching and improve the students' learning efficiency and capacity. This thesis will systematically introduce visual instructional design from the perspective of research background, research methodology, research status abroad and at home, concept definition, theoretical basis and design principles etc. Through discussing the related theories and design principles, the author of the thesis tries to understand the present status of the visual instructional design in our country and specifically construct the art design specialty of the vocational education. Finally, the leading organization charts and mind maps are introduced as the main visual tools of this study and the model of the visual instructional design is built with the guidance of the new teaching idea. This thesis firstly conducted a depth research in the present situation of vocational colleges teaching design. Through the research we found that most teachers haven't used teaching design tools in teaching practice forwardly which made the classroom atmosphere become oppressive and students' school-weariness become common. Therefore, it made vocational colleges' teaching effects poor. Secondly, bring in the theory of brain science research. Through the mechanism of cerebral hemispheres share out the work and cooperate with one another, it considers that the left hemisphere tends to logical thinking and the right is good at creative thinking. And most students in vocational education art major tend to use the right hemisphere and not good at logical thinking. The thesis combines the theory of brain science research with dual coding theory, cognitive load theory and visual thinking theory together to explore the feasibility of the application in visual teaching design. Then, the thesis elaborate the principles of the visual instructional design in detail, to provide a clearer direction and method for the application of visual teaching design. Meanwhile, combing with related theories and design principles, the thesis tries to specifically apply the leading organization charts and mind maps into the education of the art design specialty.
