This thesis is to study the English learning needs of secondary vocational school students.Need,or demand,is the motivation and source of the human actions,which is closely related to the individual's initiativity and creativity and also to the subject of personal and social development.Based on the theory of needs analysis and on interviews with ten previous graduates and employers now from Jiangyin Commercial Secondary Specialized School,the author of the present thesis analyzes the change of vocational school students' needs in English learning through questionnaire to find the root of the problem in their English learning,in order to optimize classroom structure,to improve the teaching methods,and to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of English teaching and learning.Even though the English learning ability of the students in secondary vocational school is not satisfied or even poor,but in the twenty-first century,the diversified talent cultivation is emphasized,and comprehensive quality is it required to meet the actual needs of the modern enterprises.Therefore,it is absolutely necessary to make the students in secondary vocational school aware of the importance of English learning so as to improve their learning methods and English ability and to meet the needs of English language performance for their employees by the modern enterprises.The present thesis states ten outstanding graduates from a secondary vocational school in Jiangyin Economic Development Area who are now the top ten entrepreneurial stars in the local area with their own businesses,for interviews.Through two interviews,their ideas reveal the importance of English to the students in job hunting and future career so as to let them realize the necessity in learning English well in school.Then,the author conducted a questionnaire survey to the students in the school to analyze their present status of English learning,their English knowledge and skills needs,their psychological needs,learning needs,their learning environment needs and the relationship between English learning and employment.Through the analysis,the author tries to summarize students' needs in English for the teacher to improve teaching methods and to encourage students' enthusiasm in learning English and enhance their ability to use English.
