The process of globalization and the development of China's economy have brought great impetus to the hotel industry,which has made a great requirement to the English level of the hotel practitioners.However,Hotel English teaching still uses the traditional mode in secondary vocational schools,and most teachers tend to use the grammatical analysis and lexical indoctrination.The single and obsolete teaching method cannot improve the learning interest of the students.Meanwhile,when the students encounter this kind of teaching mode,their patience and confidence will be greatly affected with less effective teaching feedback.In the end,students cannot meet the needs of the professional talents of the hotel industry.Therefore,it has great practical significance to study the Hotel English teaching method in vocational schools.The situational teaching method has been applied to the English teaching,which emphasizes that teachers should have the purpose to create and design the sensory scenes in order to arouse students' experience and resonance,deepen students' understanding and mastery of knowledge.Although many experts and scholars have done a lot of theoretical research and application about this teaching method,the field of Hotel English teaching method is relatively less.Based on the constructivist theory,the input hypotheses and the psychology theory,this thesis uses the situational teaching method to create the teaching environment and effectively carry out hotel English input in the class.The thesis tries to research the questions as follows:1)What effect does the situational teaching method have in the Hotel English output?2)What significance does the situational teaching method have for secondary vocational school students' interest and motivation in Hotel English learning?3)How does a teacher set up the proper situations in a lesson?What kind of situations will be popular and effective to the secondary vocational school students?Two classes of 2014 session of Hotel English at Sanya Hainan senior technical school are selected as the subjects of the experiment,and the experiment lasts for four months.The controlled class is taught by traditional teaching method and the experimental class is taught by situational teaching method.Tests and questionnaires will be made before and after the experiment,and the test data are analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively by statistical software SPSS 19.0.Experimental results show that:1)Hotel situational teaching can help the students improve professional English level through simulating different and specific working scenarios.2)The situational teaching is conducive to improving the students' learning interest and motivation.3)The teacher should set up the appropriate situation according to the content and teaching link.The simulation of the actual work scene and role play are the most popular and effective teaching activities among the students.The research shows that situational teaching method can improve the English learning interest and make a great improvement in Hotel English.Moreover,the teacher and the students keep in a harmonious relationship after the application of situational teaching method.We still need further research to get more data to confirm,enrich and develop the situational teaching method.
