Making a general survey of the development of the Chinese and foreign language teaching, there is a topic never out of date in our work of practising of foreign language teaching, that is how to use domestic and international theory and experience in one's own teaching practice, combine the actual conditions of our country's conditions and students, do the foreign language teaching well and improve teaching efficiency. How to settle the practical problem met in teaching well according to the goal that teaching needs to reach and concrete course content? The only outlet is to reform and try a kind of new teaching mode of corresponding to reality. The learning-centered teaching mode that this thesis puts forward is to launch a reform of teaching for Hotel English course in Vocational High School.Any teaching activity is for realizing a certain goal and achieving a certain purpose, English teaching is no exception. The teaching method adopted in English teaching must be chosen and improved according to a great deal of factors, such as the goal that teaching needs to reach, concrete course content, different teaching targets, etc. English for General Purposes is a course that is to regard teaching the skill of the general language as object, as to learners, the aim of studying EGP is to pass various kinds of tests. Different from EGP, English for Special Purposes is a practical course that makes learners' English knowledge and skill realize specialization at a certain occupation, though it is usually still taking EGP as prerequisite. Hotel English course at content has relatively better practicability, it belongs to English for Occupational Purposes. In order to reform and try to correspond to reality, the teaching mode of Hotel English should first analyze the characteristics of its nature, knowledge system and features of this concrete course, then analyze the concrete teaching target to find out about students' actual current situations and teaching characteristics of study. Chapter one of this thesis proceeds with this respect. In chapter two the author has constructively proposed a learning-centered mode under the guidance of certain theoretical foundation, then build the construction of the mode for Hotel English teaching according to key elements that are necessary for mode composition. Chapter three the author has operated procedure among the actual teaching. She has proposed the teaching principle at first, then carried on concrete implementation, proposed three links of the learning-centered mode for Hotel English course and three-in-one combination on the method. The last chapter is thinking and suggestion afterimplementing.The author has successively adopted such many kinds of research methods as analytic method of documents, questionnaire method, interview method, method of practice summarization, etc., proposed a learning-centered mode for Hotel English teaching hotel, and then put it into forward. The inspection result accords with the goal after implementing, so it proves this mode is feasible, but should still be further improved.
