As one of the four basic language skills,listening plays an important role in the language teaching.However,in the English teaching in China,because of the long-term existence of the educational tendency as "paying more attention to knowledge imparting,and less to ability training",people don't attach enough importance to the listening teaching consistently,and the current situations of the English listening teaching in Chinese Senior High Schools don't look good.In the English listening classes in Chinese Senior High Schools,the teachers apply the traditional teaching methods and listening materials generally,and the students'learning enthusiasms,interests and motivations aren't good enough generally as well,their English listening achievements aren't satisfying constantly either.Thus in this thesis,the author tries to apply original English movies in the English listening teaching in Chinese Senior High Schools,in order to improve the current situations of it.Comparing with the traditional listening materials applied in the English listening classes in Chinese Senior High Schools,the original English movies possess the features of"authentic,vital,attractive and knowledgeable",thus they can better arouse and promote the students' learning enthusiasms,interests and motivations in English listening classes,improve the effects and efficiency of teachers' teaching and the effects and efficiency of students'learning in classes.In a word,they are helpful in promoting the students'English listening levels and improving their English listening achievements.Because of these,the application of original English movies in the English listening teaching in Chinese Senior High Schools is reasonable and feasible to some extent.The theoretical basis of this thesis includes Krashen's input hypothesis,Krashen's affective filter hypothesis and the schema theory.The research subjects are all of the students from Class 1 and Class 8 of Grade 1 in No.2 Senior High School of GaiZhou City.In the study in this thesis,the author applied original English movies in the English listening teaching for the students from one of the two classes,and compared the results with the results of the English listening teaching for another class where original English movies weren't applied.Through the empirical studies,this thesis aims to answer the following three research questions:(1)What effects can applying original English movies in English listening teaching on Senior High School students' English listening grades?(2)What types of original English movie clips are suitable to be applied in the English listening teaching in Senior High Schools?(3)What are the students' attitudes to applying original English movies in English listening teaching?The whole process of the teaching experiment lasted for nearly four months(From September,2016 to January,2017),in the teaching experiment,one of the selected class was considered as the experimental class(Class 8,Grade 1),and the other one was considered as the control class(Class 1,Grade 1).Before this teaching experiment,the English listening levels of the students from these two classes are almost the same.The English listening classes of both of these two classes are taught by the author,but the teaching methods and materials which the author applied to teach the students from these two classes are different.In the English listening classes of the experimental class,the author applied original English movies in teaching,and the teaching materials are original English movie clips;in the English listening classes of the controlled class,the author applied the traditional teaching method and materials to teach.The research instruments of this study are the tests,the questionnaire and the interview.The author applied SPSS 22.0 statistic analysis software to analyze the data and results of this study.The results of this study show that the teaching method of applying original English movies in classes has apparent positive effects on the English listening teaching in Senior High Schools.Applying original English movies in English listening teaching can promote the students' learning activeness and enthusiasms in classes,arouse the students' learning interests and motivations in classes,improve the students' learning effects and efficiency in and after classes,in a word,it's helpful in improving the students' English listening achievements and levels.Besides,most students' attitudes to this new English listening teaching method are active,affirmative and supportive.Thus applying original English movies in the English listening teaching in Senior High Schools is quite reasonable and feasible.At last,firstly,the author discussed the implications of this teaching method on the English listening teaching in Senior High Schools--for teachers,they should try to improve the students' learning enthusiasms,interests and motivations in classes as much as they can;and for students,they should try their bests to train themselves to keep favorable learning enthusiasms,interests and motivations in classes,and to form good learning customs.After that,the author introduced the limitations of this study--on one hand,the number of the research subjects of this study was a little small;on the other hand,the duration time of the teaching experiment in this study was a little short.Finally,the author put forward some suggestions on the future relevant studies according to the results of this study.
