As is known to all mathematics is a very important subject that everyone has been in contact with since early age.Because mathematics is very abstract,and the logical thinking ability request is extremely strong,if you don’t have good learning habits,appropriate learning methods and well operation and reasoning ability at first,it will be difficult to learn mathematics.Due to the characteristics of mathematics subject,many people show strong preference for other subjects at an early age and have low mathematics score,result is bad,in combination with psychological effects,resulting in poor achievement in mathematics in middle school and high school.Because of today’s national focus on quality education and art and sports education,some students are choosing art and sports majors,which have lower mathematical requirement.Therefore many universities have established art and sports majors such as music,fine art,broadcasting and hosting,professional sports and so on.Many students apply for art and sports majors because of relatively low academic requirements;they need almost no more than proficient performance in professional courses to be admitted by universities and colleges.As a result,with the growing number of art and sports students,teaching on them especially in mathematics is becoming increasingly important and having a great influence on them,because it is easier to improve the performance in mathematics than in other subjects.Art and sports students have very distinct personality characteristics.They tend to have simple logic and simple personality and think in a more direct way.Therefore the teaching for art and sports students is worth thinking for high schools.It is necessary not only to think about how to learn mathematics better from the perspective of students,but also to make changes in teachers’ attitude towards art and sports students and think about how to develop more suitable teaching strategies for art and sports students.In this paper,methods including literature reference,questionnaire survey and interview were implemented to make investigation and analysis of art and sports students and classroom teachers in an ordinary high school respectively,in order to propose appropriate strategies to better solve the problem.Survey found that teachers who want to teach art and sports students well have to understand them and their attitude towards and confusions in mathematics learning,establish a harmonious relationship between teachers and students,lower the starting point and the difficulty of the knowledge,set appropriate teaching goals.Furthermore,teaching plans have to be practical,and homework has to be targeted and encouraging.It is also necessary to adopt tiered teaching.Art and sports students,on the other hand,need to have the right learning attitude,accurate self-positioning,correct self-cognition,good learning habits and everyday practices,in order to learn mathematics well.This paper expounds the problems in mathematics learning among art and sports students in high school.Taking advantage of existing teaching practice and aiming at mathematics learning of art and sports,the author put forward strategies in two aspects;one is the method of learning mathematics for art and sports students,theother is teachers’ strategies in teaching these students.It is hoped that this study can help art and sports students to find the fun of learning mathematics,enabling them to stop resisting mathematics and improve their performance.In this way,their efforts in professional courses will not be in vain,and they will look forward to their future more and have more confidence to work on.
