The Multiple-Intelligence Theory(the MI theory)which was proposed by Howard Gardner in his book Frames of Mind. This theory stresses students' individual differences, which means each student has his or her strong intelligence. Thus, teachers should change the traditional teaching methods to meet different needs of individuals and help students to develop the strong intelligence and improve the weak ones.Meanwhile, the MI theory should be applied to the teaching activities to stimulate their learning interest as well as improve their reading proficiency.Taking the MT theory as the theoretical basis, the author performed a teaching experiment, which aims to research the following questions:Firstly, whether the MI-based English reading teaching can stimulate students' learning interest?Secondly, whether the MI-based English reading teaching can improve middle school students' reading proficiency? Before the experiment, the author used three questionnaires and a reading test paper as the pre-test.During the experiment,OXFORD Shanghai Edition 9A was chosen as the experimental textbook. The author displayed the detailed information on the application of MI theory to the activity design in teaching of English reading.By analyzing the results of the experiment, the author can draw a conclusion: Applying the MI theory into the English reading teaching can be helpful in stimulating students' interest and improving their reading abilities.
