The Generation And Performance Of The Competence Need Restorative Process After The Youth Athletes' Competence Need Thwarting

Studies have proved that the importance of the psychological needs to the athletes' psychological development,psychological need thwarting can produce a series of negative influence on athletes,but there is no research about the process between athletes psychological need thwarting and its negative results.How are the athletes coping with the psychological need thwarting is unclear.Based on the studies of autonomy and belonging,this study proposed the hypothesis that competence need restorative process is the athletes' coping mechanism to the psychological need thwarting.This study focus on the cognition,motivation and behavioral to test this hypothesis' validation and hope to provide some theoretical basis to future intervention for athletes psychological need thwarting.Study 1 examined the competence need restorative process from the cognition and motivation level.Throughout the negative feedback method,explore the response time differences in lexical decision tasks between the athletes who were under the condition of competence need thwarting and the control group and the difference on motivation to the competence needs.37 youth athletes to participate in this experiment results indicate that athletes under the condition of competence need thwarting response time to the related words were faster than the control group of athletes,and there is no difference between two types of words in the control group.The motivation to the competence needs is higher in the athletes under the condition of competence need thwarting than control group,but no difference between autonomy and relation.This illustrates the existence of competence need restorative process on the level of cognition and motivation.Study 2 examined the competence need restorative process from the behavioral level.Throughout the negative feedback method,explore the perseverance differences on the difficult maze task between the athletes who were under the condition of competence need thwarting and the control group.46 young athletes to participate in this experiment results indicate that,the group of the competence need thwarting athletes adhere to the time is longer but only under the condition of be told the defendant maze task is ability tests,no main effect between the two differences instructions in the the control group.This illustrates the existence of competence need restorative process on the level of behavior.Conclusions:(1)The athletes who were under the condition of competence need thwarting will produce the competence need restorative process.To be specific,on the cognitive performance is more sensitive to the words related to the ability,on the motivation of the motivation of pursuing ability demand increase.(2)The performance of the competence need restorative process on behavior is the athletes are more willing to pay more efforts to prove their ability.
