The Development Of High School Extracurricular Basketball Activities In Chengde And The Analysis Of Its Influencing Factors

As an essential sport for physical education at school,basketball is widely carried out in the youth groups,due to its characteristic of improving the overall quality of students.It is very important for the students to participate in content-rich and well-organized basketball activities in their spare time,thus to cultivate their interests in the basketball and make it a life-long hobby.Based on the actual situation,the main affecting factors for the development of Chengde high school extracurricular basketball activities were explored and analyzed.The study is of far-reaching significance for the cultivation of the students' hobbies and expertise in sports.The methods of literature,questionnaire survey,interview,observation and mathematical statistics were used in the study,the influencing factors were defined through expert interviews,the key influencing factors were identified after data reduction for the survey of 1100 students and 11 teachers and the analysis for the influencing factors through SPSS.The conclusions are as follows:1 The voluntary participation was widely applied by the students in high school in Chengde,therefore the participants were more focusing on its nature of fitness and entertainment.While organized basketball activities was chosen by less students who expect to advance their knowledge and skills through the professional guidance from teachers,which is more helpful for the cultivation of hobbies and expertise.2 Significant differences occurred in participation contents of extracurricular basketball activities between male and female students.Shooting,dribbling and other simple technical training were preferred by female,which is not helpful to experience the meaning and valve of the sport,and caused the low participation rate among female students.3 The intensity of extracurricular basketball activities for high school students in Chengde was a little bit low due to the limits of participation contents and duration for each time.4 The main sites for high school students in Chengde to carry out the extracurricular basketball activities were the free sites inside/outside school yard.Though well equipped,the price of the site where charge money was too high for ordinary students to afford.5 A lot of organization and management problems occurred in the development of high school extracurricular basketball activities in Chengde,for example,inadequate schedule and system,which caused low frequency,simplex contents and methods of school activities;no enough effective interference for class activities;potential security risks and tense practical usage of the facilities;different distribution between male and female participants;lack of training funds and contest funds.6 The extracurricular basketball clubs for high school were just started in Chengde,only established in 3 high schools,and the participation rate was low.7 The main factors influencing the development of Chengde high school extracurricular basketball activities were,in order,organization factor,external condition factor,teaching factor,weather factors,attitude factors and interest factors.According to the main factors influencing the development of Chengde high school extracurricular basketball activities,the following suggestions were put forward:1 The organization forms of extracurricular basketball activities shall be enriched,the students shall be divided into groups according to the their own physique and athletic ability,the contents of extracurricular basketball activities shall be diversified with the purpose of cultivating the interests of basketball and improving the participation rate,and the focus of mobilizing the enthusiasm.2 The funds shall be invested to improve the problem of potential security risks and tense practical usage of the facilities,thus to lower the probability of students getting hurt during the sports as much as possible.The roofs shall be constructed for the outdoor basketball site based on the weather condition of Chengde,thus to reduce the impact on the extracurricular basketball activities from the weather.3 In the process of basketball teaching,the importance of theoretical teaching shall be enhanced,the methods of theoretical teaching shall be enriched,the rules of basketball shall be explained upon the videos of wonderful basketball events,and the sports safety knowledge education shall be attached with great importance.4 The physical education concept of school teachers shall be strengthened,the concepts of the teachers who underestimate and have a prejudice against school physical education shall be corrected.Especially for the antagonistic sports like basketball of body contact,it shall be not devalued because of its risk of getting hurt.It is the teachers who matters most to a student before graduating from school except for his parents.The development of school physical education would be inevitably promoted if every school teacher has ardent love for the sports.
