The STEM-SOS of Harmony Public Schools of Texas in the United States is a rigorous,interdisciplinary,standards-focused,and engaging STEM teaching approach that is teacher-facilitated,student-centered and directed through sets of project-and inquiry-based(P&IBL)projects.It aims at students of K-12 stage.The project theme are from the problems what students will probably meet in the real life.Those are related to the knowledge and skills of science,technology,engineering,mathematics and social study and English language arts.This new PBL approach is to maintain the focus on standards-based teaching while enriching and extending the learning of students and deepening the understanding of the theory,concept,mastering the skills of analysis of the problem and exploring the way to solve the problem through PBL projects.The goal is to promote not only collaborative skills and student ownership of learning but also to promote student success in state and national standards and to lay a solid foundation for higher learning.The research object of this study is the STEM teaching model of Harmony Public Schools---"STEM-SOS".This study shows the frame of the STEM-SOS model and analyses the content and characteristics of it,in order to do my bit for the research of STEM education in schools.The full text is divided into 6 chapters.The first chapter introduces the reasons for choosing the topic,the review of the study of STEM education at home and abroad,the definition of the core concepts and the introduction of the research methods.The second chapter states the background of the STEM-SOS mode,including the history and current situation of Harmony Public Schools and its policy and plan of STEM education.In third chapter the STEM-SOS teaching mode is introduced in detail,in this chapter,you can learn more about the STEM-SOS teaching model objectives,operating procedures,evaluation and other details.You will also know the way of this teaching model to deal the problem of teachers which the global STEM Education will meet too.The 4th and the 5th chapter analysis what we could learn from it on the basis of the actual situation of the implementation of STEM education in China's primary and secondary schools.The last chapter is the conclusion of this study.This study suggests that our country should carry out these aspects to improve STEM education in basic education in China: First,improve the STEM teacher cultivating system;Second,strengthen the cooperation with family and community in order to create a sustainable environment for STEM education;Third,change the traditional concept in our mind and correctly understand the essence of STEM Education.
