communicate skill is the basis to strengthen living skill and social adaptation skill for children with mental retardation.Children with severe mental retardation are delayed in cognitive thinking,movement,speech and language and have limited communication skill.Therefore,the study of severe mental retardation children's ability to communicate is of great significance.This study took two objects with severe mental retardation from a special education school and discussed the intervention effect of Picture Exchange Communication System(PECS).Before intervention,the standardized scale of Using PECS to Assess Basic Communication Skill was used to assess the current communication skill of two objects.The intervention period was from September to December during which 36 times(each time 25 minutes)of teaching were carried out.One camera was used to collect data that was analyzed using Target Behavior Observation Scale.At the end of the intervention,two objects have successfully completed the fourth stage of learning.The results of the study showed that under the stimulus of reinforcer,objects can master the basic communication pattern.The increase of distance between objects and communication book or communication partners had little impact on them while the change of communication partners affected objects' performance.On the whole,two objects can distinguish pictures and express their needs.After three-month intervention,two objects can use pictures and simple sentences to communicate.Suggestionsare given as followed: Adjusted teaching in accordance with the state of students' learning status,change communication partners as far as possible,generalize intervention situation to different environment...
