Self-care is the ability to take care of their own life preliminarily and to learn to do their own things for children,which is a basic life skill for people should have.The main contents include happy dining,using spoons and chopsticks correctly,wiping mouth after dinner;wearing and taking off clothes and shoes in order,tying shoes and making bed;washing face and hands,brushing teeth correctly,keeping tidy etc.The cultivation and improvement of children's self-care ability is helpful to the development of children's independence,so that children can adapt to the environment and life.In this study,a questionnaire with good reliability and validity was used as a survey tool.Two classes of sixty children selected from a kindergarten of Tianjin were subjects,questionnaires were sent to their parents.The author counted and analyzed the survey results on the basis of questionnaires,understood the level of the present situation of children's self-care ability,and then worked out "Picture book education activities for life themes " according to the survey results and characteristics of the children in the top class.The series of education activities are divided into five dimensions including "I love clean","I want to go to the bathroom","Eating delicious meals","Going to sleep" and "I can wear clothes",fifteen education activities in total.The selected two classes of sixty children in this study were divided into two groups by gender.Fifteen boys and fifteen girls were randomly selected to compose experimental group to participate to enhance children's self-care ability using life themes picture books,the remaining thirty children as control group.In this way,the sex ratios of children in the two groups were approximately equal to eliminate the interference in the results due to gender differences.The experiment lasted for eight weeks,and then experimental group and control group were post-tested.The differences between experimental group and control group before and after the experiment,and in the post-test were compared.The research showed:1.Children's self-care ability experimental group are significantly different in the increment of total scores,washing,toileting,dining,sleeping,and dressing,meanwhile the average increments of total scores and every dimension of the experimental group were higher than those of the control group.2.Children's self-care ability in control group is significantly different in the increment of total scores,washing,toileting,dining,sleeping,and dressing,meanwhile the average increments of total scores and every dimension of the experimental group were higher than those of the control group.3.Children's self-care ability in control group and experimental group improved before and after the experiment,and there are significant differences between the two groups.The research suggested:First,teachers should have the concept and consciousness to improve children's self-care ability using life themes picture books.Secondly,on the basis of using picture books to improve children's self-care ability,teachers should combine with other method to get better results.Finally,teachers should build a bridge of communication between home and kindergarten with life themes picture books,promote the improvement of children's self-care ability,and integrate themes picture books education into children's daily life.
