As the ministry of education incorporated English subject into the elementary school curriculum in 2001.now English education has been successful introduce to elementary school,as well as attracting more and more attention of scholars.Following the sound development of primary school English education,more and more educators have grasped the educational values of pictures books in language classroom.English picture book contains not only vivid picture, and contains authentic language materials.Its characteristics consistent with cognitive and psychological characteristics of pupils, so that can inspire student’s interest in learning and language sense, to better assist the development of students’ comprehensive ability to use language as they learn English and continue to create favorable conditions for future development.The present study used literature research methodology and questionnaire survey methodology.A total of 388 elementary school English teachers from the elementary school of Changsha Yuelu district,responded to the questionnaire.The study focused on exploring:1、what are teachers’ perspectives toward picture book used in English teaching;2 、 the actual situation of using English picture book;3 、 challenges teachers encountered while using picture books.The present study aimed to investigate the current situation of picture books applied in elementary school English teaching,and puts forward some suggestions for the existing problems.Hoping the findings can promote English picture books teaching carry out more effective in primary school.The study found that Changsha City, there are several problems in the application of Yuelu District primary school English picture books:The effective use of this rate is not high;The use of picture books, lack of class facilities and funds;Teachers’ teaching methods are simple and formal.Based on the findings of the study,put forward some suggestions to the school administration, teachers and the society.To strengthen the school curriculum management to promote the development of picture books;Teachers to create autonomous learning atmosphere,improve their ability of picture books;Gather all power to improve the picture book teaching attention.
