At present,the new high school curriculum reformation has repeatedly emphasized the importance of students' initiative spirits,awareness of cooperation and cooperative ability.As a diverse teaching method,cooperative learning can provide students with proper opportunities to work together,think together and exchange ideas in class.Among various cooperative methods,Jigsaw method,one of the practical and efficient methods,pays more attention to students' communication and cooperation and focuses on students' interdependence during harmonious atmosphere of learning.Jigsaw method is mainly applied at colleges and junior middle schools,little at senior high school,especially in senior English reading teaching.Therefore,the author attempts to study the efficiency of applying jigsaw in senior English reading teaching.The experiment is carried out at two classes when the author was teaching them as an intern teacher.The English level of the two classes is almost the same.During the experiment,the two classes are taught by the same English teacher with the same textbook and so on.And almost the same teaching time and pace are kept during the experiment,too.Jigsaw teaching is applied in Class Five which is the experimental class,while the control class,Class Six is taught under traditional English teaching method.The instruments of pre-test and post-test,questionnaire are utilized.The research questions are as follows:1.Can Jigsaw method improve students' involvement in senior English reading teaching?2.Can Jigsaw method improve students' reading achievements in senior English reading teaching?The research findings of the experiment and questionnaire indicate that the application of Jigsaw teaching method in senior English reading teaching is effective in improving both students' involvement and reading achievements.From the findings above,we can also know that Jigsaw method in senior English reading teaching,which is a students-centered teaching application,can contribute to enhancing students' interests in English reading classes and improving students' comprehensive understanding and acquisition level of the text.
