Recently, the Jigsaw has been focused on by many scholars in this field of language teaching. Jigsaw is one of the methods of cooperative teaching. The researchers find out that it can improve the students’ learning motivation and encourage the students to participate the learning activities in the class. Many scholars have shown that the teaching method is inflexible and students have low motivation in the reading class. Based on the previous studies, the author makes a further research on the Jigsaw applied in the junior high school.This thesis mainly studies the efficiency of using jigsaw in English reading teaching in junior high school. The study mainly applies teaching experiment method. During the experiment, the author applies the Jigsaw to teach English reading in experimental class. This experiment is based on the student teams achievement divisions method and cognitive and psychological basis of jigsaw and follows the requirements of the National English Curriculum. Through the process of establishing requirements, grouping, assigning tasks and assessing, the author wants the students to get familiar with the Jigsaw. It is an effective way to improve students’ English reading proficiency which cultivates students’ independent learning as well as the cooperation with peers by the interaction among the students’ teams, and between the students and teacher. After the analyses of data from both experimental class and control class, it comes to the result which shows that Jigsaw increase the students’ interest about English reading and improve their English reading grades. Jigsaw is an effective method in English reading teaching in junior high school.
