In 2017,a new education policy has been made by NPC &CPPCC,the subjects of Arts will be contained into Chinese High School Entrance exam.From the beginning of this year,Jiangsu Province,as the first pilot,will take art disciplines into the High School Entrance exam and will continue to apply an artistic quality evaluation system in more primary and secondary schools in Jiangsu.In recent years,due to the continuous emphasis on quality education,primary and secondary school’s music education has been gradually considered.The development of music education has made great progress,as the introduction of a series of relevant policies and regulations make more parents and students realize the importance of art education,which also makes more and more scholars into the research of primary and secondary school music education.Nowadays,students’ excessive attention to popular music and the lack of interest in music course is undoubtedly the more prominent contradiction in music education in primary and secondary schools.For now,the most common solution is to start from the students’ interest by using pop music and its element to better complete the music teaching.According to our research,most teachers do achieve “take interest as driving force” in teaching,but they seem to consider using pop music simply as a teaching method rather than giving pop music its rightful place.Therefore,the aesthetic value of pop music is not reflected in educational practice.In this paper,through the specific researches and education practice,and analyse from the current development of pop music;the relation between pop music and primary and secondary school music curriculum;the impact of popular music caused on young people and other aspects,the writer will illustrate the necessity of proper use of pop music in primary and secondary school music classroom.Pop music has its own feature that makes it more suitable for music class in lower education level,and as a part of music art,it should be equally treated as other sorts of music in music education.In the current teaching materials of primary and secondary school music class,the proportion of popular music does not match to its development and the needs of the times.Many contradictions like the increasing needs of multy-style music learning;the unhealthy impact by nonstandard development of popular music market......have clearly illustrate that today’s primary and secondary students for pop music is in an urgent need for aesthetic guidance education.The development of Pop music is irresistible.The appropriate use into music classroom is in line with the needs of the time,as it is to respect the needs of individual students development.Therefore pop music deserves more attention in music education.This paper is divided into several parts: the first part is the introduction.The second part is the concept of "pop music",contemporary characteristics and the existing problems in its development of our country.The third part is the relationship between popular music and primary and secondary school music class and the current situation of music curriculum.The fourth part is case analysis of appropriate pop music use in primary and secondary school music classroom.The fifth part is about the recommendation to popular music education.
