The quality of education, with the process of our society and the well-round reform and opening, wins increased attention. The national music education, as an important part, did not get enough attention, and it is considered as a kind of affection toward our motherland, as well as the symbol of national cohesiveness and unification. Middle school students, the rising stars of our country, can receive national music education and then acquire some basic knowledge to cultivate their interests in music and take pride in their motherland. Meanwhile, the whole history of China and customs of 56 nations can be represented to them from music in different periods and nations. However, national music education differs from regions and levels. In this thesis, an investigation and field research have been taken to their music study in two schools of Nanchang. Based on this, the author briefly grasps some typical problems in teaching national music and then makes a study of its possible reasons, and puts forward some suggestion just for them.Firstly, a detailed analysis of music education is made on the relationship between school and nation. Certain references about the situation of national music education in middle and primary school have also been collected, sorted through and analyzed in order to make some flaws exposed in our education. Next to this, another survey on the course standard in compulsory education has been made to get a brief idea about how national music education has been placed. The analysis of 18 kinds of music textbooks in 9 grades shows us proportion of national music textbooks in regular ones, and it helps us to have detailed study on the significance of its cultural inheritance to add more information on the investigation. The emphasis is then confirmed in this study. After this, the author makes a comprehensive research on the references at home and abroad and then puts forward the key points of this thesis. The teaching method of national music education in classes should be greatly improved, and the textbooks should be the local national music, as for Nanchang, like Gan Opera and Picking Tea Opera, representing typical features of Jiangxi Province. Last but not least, a group of teachers majored in music needs to be established. From all-mentioned perspectives, national music education in middle and primary schools could be greatly improved, therefore, our national music will accordingly be spread over and it will make a contribution to the transfer of our culture.
