Primary school is the fundamental stage of English learning, bearing the task of stimulating English interest and cultivating basic oral communication ability. The research shows that applying Drama in primary school English classroom application can improve the teaching quality, which make up for the lack of single chanting teaching.This paper first analyzes the limits of single chanting teaching. The single chanting teaching only emphasizes the mechanical exercises of words and sentences, which lead to lack of student's interest and enthusiasm for classroom participation, ignoring the cultural transmission.Secondly, the paper analyzes the significance of drama to the development of primary school students. Drama can improve the ability of using English comprehensively and students' interest in English learning. Besides, drama can promote primary school students' creative thinking and exert students' subjectivity in the classroom, helping primary school students deep understanding of Chinese and Western culture.Thirdly,according to the source of the drama content, the author divides the drama into the drama based on the textbook, drama based on the picture book, drama based on the originality, and analyzes the connotation and characteristics of the three types. Based on this, the thesis draws the strategies of applying drama in primary English class according to the author's teaching experience and case analysis, elaborating the teaching process of different types of drama and the concrete implementation strategies of each process respectively.Finally, the paper analyzes the role of teachers when applying drama in the primary English class. The teacher has four different roles: t the teacher who is the actor, he teacher who is the motivator, the teacher who is the director of the event, and the teacher who is the dramatist.
