The core quality of geography is'the essential character and key ability of geography,which is formed by geography learning and has the characteristics of geography. It is mainly composed of four elements,the concept of man and earth, the comprehensive thinking, the regional cognition and the practical ability of geography',the core quality of geography is put forward under the background of deepening the curriculum reform in our country. The geographical practice ability is an important part of the core quality of geography,the ability of geographical observation is an important component of geographical practice ability. Therefore, the cultivation of students' ability of geographical observation is also the requirement of cultivating students' core quality. In this paper,I study the cultivation of geography practical ability in depth through the method of literature research,expert consultation and classroom observation, to reveal the level of high school students' geographical observation ability, in order to promote the cultivation of students' practical ability.This paper summarizes and reviews the current research status of geographical practice ability, geographical observation ability and teaching diagnosis both at home and abroad. I determine the research program under the guidance of the teacher. It is one of the core contents of this paper that the construction of the classroom observation and diagnostic criteria of high school students' practical ability. The basis of diagnosis, the choice of diagnostic index, the establishment of the diagnostic scale can not be separated from the guidance of experts and excellent geography teachers. Based on the reference to the curriculum standards and the international charter of geographical education,I develop a classroom observation scale through the method of literature research and expert consultation. The practical ability of geographical observation can be divided into five aspects,the observation ability of graph, the ability of watching animation, the ability of video observation,demonstration observation ability,experimental observation ability.According to the content of'compulsory 1' of Hunan Education Press, the paper chooses the 11 Hunan high school geography class to observe the classroom record,makes a record of the activities of the observation in the classroom, and records the results of the observation in the classroom observation scale. I carries on the statistical analysis to the 11 classroom observation observation scale, thus carries on the diagnosis to the high school student's geography observation practice ability level. This paper analyzes the problems existing in the teaching process of the teachers and the problems existing in the process of the students' geographical observation,and put forward some strategies of cultivating geographical observation ability in the end.Through classroom observation, the author finds that the following problems exist in the teaching of geography observation activities, The type of geographical observation activity is single, the teaching resources should be developed,lack of guidance, pay attention to teachers' teaching,ignore student activities,lack of positive and effective teaching evaluation.The students showed the following problems in the geographical observation,The geographical observation ability level difference is big,the students have not mastered the scientific method of observation,do not pay attention to the details of the geographical observation, learning autonomy needs to be improved. Aimed at some problems in geography observation activities,I put forward some strategies of cultivating geographical observation ability from five aspects,the observation ability of graph, the ability of watching animation, the ability of video observation,demonstration observation ability,experimental observation ability.Such as strengthen the reading method guidance and develop habits of reading and using maps,develop animation resources suitable for the teaching,teachers should pay attention to the collection of video resources,develop geographical demonstrators and pay attention to students' participation experience,close to the student life,stimulate experimental interest etc.
