The algorithm and program design is one of high school information technology curriculum elective module.The aim is for students to analyze problems,and then solve the problems by programming.Before learning this course,many students were very interested in the course and were eager to learn;but when the study started,some students began to wilt and depressed.The atmosphere of traditional classroom is depressing,lack of discipline.It's difficult for the teachers to stimulate the students'learning motivation,at the same time,it's difficult for the students to understand the complicated content.Also there is little time for them to apply what they have learned to practice.The teachers and students are eager to change the situation.Compared with traditional teaching,case teaching method is student-oriented.Case teaching method emphasize the interaction between teachers and students,the development of students' thinking ability,and the combination of theory and practice.The case teaching method has been applied to subject teaching in many universities and higher vocational schools both at home and abroad,and has yielded good results.But as to programming courses,there are more applications of case teaching in colleges and universities and higher vocational education than high schools.After analyzing the learners,learning content and learning objectives,the author confirmed the feasibility of case teaching in the algorithm and program design curriculum.Then the author read through many related papers and books,and have accumulated some cases,which attribute to the construction of the case library in the end.Then the author picked out two classes with similar initial ability through questionnaire method,and carried out the experiment between two classes in which one class used the case teaching method,while the other was not.In the end of the course,the author carried out a questionnaire survey and interview,a final test was also held in order to evaluate the effect of case teaching method.The author obtained the principles of case selecting through literature and survey.The questionnaires were analyzed to testify and summarize the process and teaching strategies of case teaching.Due to the limited teaching skills,many problems appeared in the experiment and it seemed that the teaching effect of this course is not ideal.Actions should be taken to improve the situation.Besides,the case library for "algorithm and programming" course need to be perfectly constructed.
