| Using Chinese punctuation marks is a key point as well as a difficult point,for Sri Lankan students. The expression of Chinese written language is closely related to the usage of punctuations. The usage of punctuations marks a clear difference between Sinhala and Chinese languages and many Sri Lankan students often find difficulties in using Chinese punctuations. Thus, this study was progressed on the area of "Error analysis on the usage of Chinese punctuation marks of Sri Lankan students"The research was based on 50 second year students that were selected from University of Kelaniya and 20 high school students (from Bandaranayaka college - Gampaha,Vishaka Vidyalaya - Colombo, Devi Balika Vidyalaya- Colombo, Yashodara Balika Vidyalaya- Gampaha). Through classroom observations, questionnaires, learner’s homework and composition study, their errors of punctuation the data were collected and keenly analyzed.This study introduces the classification and usage of punctuation marks in Chinese Language, the classification and usage of punctuation marks in Sinhalese language,compares the classification and usage of the punctuation marks in both languages,analyzes the punctuation errors of Sri Lanka high school students and University Students, punctuation errors, and then analyzes the reasons of errors, and finally recommends the corresponding teaching suggestion accordingly. It is expected that the study will support the Chinese language learners in Sri Lanka to improve and understand the subtle nuances in using Chinese punctuation marks simultaneously avoiding the errors. |
